Installation and care

InstallatioN

Thank you for delaying the excitement of putting up your holds by first landing here.  Below are recommendations for installing and caring for your Odd Adaptation holds.  Note that poorly attached holds can result in an inadequate connection with the artificial climbing surface (ACS), damage to the hold, failure of the hold, damage to the ACS, or injury to the climber.  Total bummer.

climbing surface

Odd Adaptation holds must only be installed on a flat surface meant for climbing, and contain the appropriate attachment points (ie, T-Nut).  The base of the hold must sit flush with the climbing surface.

attaching
bolt-on holds

Most Odd Adaptation holds are bolt-on holds.  Our bolt-on holds are compatible with and recommend for use with either a 3/8" (imperial) or M10 (metric) bolt.

Most of our bolt-on holds (typically medium sized or larger) have one or more pre-drilled screw holes meant to accommodate an anti-spin screw.  If a hold has one or more anti-spin screw holes it is critical to install a screw in all available pre-drilled holes.  Because, you know, spinners suck.  Anti-spin screws avoid unexpected hold rotations and greatly reduce breakage and accidents.  We recommend driving the screws into the ACS with a handheld screwdriver until the screw is snug.  Do not over tighten screws.

It is important that you do not under or over tighten bolts.  Under tightened holds may not be properly secured to the ACS.  Over tightened holds can damage the holds, bolts, or attachment points.

Note that the condition of the bolt and t-nut can affect the torque value applied (ie, there can be a change in friction from lubrication, corrosion, or cross threading) and the accuracy of the tightening method can also greatly affect torque values.

We also offer smaller screw-on holds which typically have three pre-drilled screw holes.  When installing screw-on holds it is critical to install a screw in all available pre-drilled holes.  We recommend driving the screws into the ACS with a handheld screwdriver until the screw is snug.  Do not over tighten screws.

cleaning and maintenance

Be sure to regularly clean, inspect, and check for appropriate fixation of your Odd Adaptation holds.

cleaning

We recommend that holds are cleaned with a power washer on a soft, secure surface.  We recommend water temperatures to not exceed 120°F as higher temperatures can potentially damage the holds and affect their color.

Maintenance

Before use and at regular intervals during use we recommend that holds are visually inspected for cracks, chips, breaks, sharp edges, and burrs.  Do not use damaged holds.  Do not modify any holds.  Regularly check installed holds to ensure they are tightly affixed to the ACS.  Any damaged or overly worn holds should be discarded.

warning!

PLEASE BE  AWARE THAT

  • Climbing holds are for use on artificial walls only,

  • Climbing on artificial walls is inherently dangerous,

  • Climbing holds can spin or break resulting in injury, and

  • Your safety is your responsibility and your responsibility alone.
